I have used navigation systems (for spine and total joints) and robotics (for General surgeries). To see both of these systems merge with one another is intriguing. In my personal opinion, I have seen better pedicle screw placement accuracy with navigation compared to the traditional approach. Robotics do have the capability to have better precision, but it does take away the "feel" some surgeons rely on. Also, robotics do benefit the patient with smaller incisions and less tissue damage, but they take longer to use, increasing anesthesia time for the patient. Incorporating this system in the O.R. would be costly for the facility and involve extensive training for staff.
