Allison Cárdenas is a sociology major at San Francisco State University and is also concurrently enrolled at CSM. She is incredibly involved in the community as a choreographer for the CSM Dance program and as a tutor to other young Latinas, with whom she shares her experiences and story to help them overcome the challenges and barriers unique to the Hispanic/Latino community. She is a first gen student who is passionate about speaking out for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Dreissy Sop Reyes was born in a small town in Guatemala but has lived in San Francisco for the past 12 years. She just finished her third year as an International Relations major at San Francisco State University and is hoping to graduate in the spring of 2023. She decided to study International Relations because she wanted to learn more about the world and how she can better help other immigrants like her both in the United States and in other countries.

My name is Favian Samaniego and I am a first-generation Mexican-American college student. I was born in Los Angeles, California and moved to the Bay Area in 2011. I began my first semester of college at San Francisco State University during the 2020 pandemic as a Criminal Justice major and I am now double majoring in Criminal Justice Studies as well as Psychology in hopes of going into a career related to law or law enforcement. At San Francisco State University, I have been a part of the Gator Leadership Circle Program and the Tutoring and Academic Research Center as a tutor for first year communications courses for one year.

I am a husband to wife Tracy and father to son Oliver and daughter Stella. I am an avid runner and cyclist. I have lived, worked, studied, and played in San Francisco for several years and I love this city. As an older student returning to SFSU after a 12-year hiatus, I appreciate the chance to learn from both the faculty and my fellow students who are equally passionate about working to make this the most socially just city in the world.

Hello, my name is Kimberly Hinojos and I am a current senior at San Francisco State University majoring in Economics and minoring in Professional Writing and Rhetoric. I am passionate about labor and employment rights and laws, which inspired my career aspiration of becoming a labor and employment attorney. In my free time I enjoy making ice cream and playing with my newborn kitten, Aioli. I hope to gain mentorship through the Willie L. Brown Jr. Fellowship and learn as much as I can at my placement site!

In the Spring of 2021, Kerri received her associate degrees in Liberal Arts and Criminal Justice from Solano Community College and transferred to San Francisco State in August of 2021. She is currently a senior at San Francisco State University, pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Her dream in life is to become a Criminal Defense attorney and she is on the road to accomplishing her dream. Kerri hopes that her participation in the Willie Brown Fellowship will help lead her to more opportunities in the future. She will be taking the LSAT in the fall of 2022 and plans to attend law school in 2023, complete her J.D and pass the bar exam in 2026.

My name is Maria Jose Olea Gerardo. I was born in Mexico and raised in San Diego since the age of two. I have many passions including: working out, cooking, volunteering, watercolor painting, anime, and spending time with those I love. I am a Senior at San Francisco State University and am currently pursing my Bachelor of Arts in Economics. I used to study aerospace engineering for two years before switching to a major I felt more comfortable in. Thanks to my background in arts and engineering, I have been able to start various small businesses during these past three years. As of now, I am the Creative Director for a Chinese artist organization known as Chinanime and plan to take over next year. We work with various Chinese artists and help bring them exposure by promoting their work at anime conventions across the United States. I also volunteer at various nonprofits during my free time. My main career goal after finishing school is to work for an international animation company called FUNimation.

Hello. My name is Nicholas Angelo Cresta. I am a Bay Area native that loves the city of San Francisco. I am returning to SFSU to complete my undergraduate studies after my first attempt over 10 years ago. The decision to come back to school was very difficult to make, but I am grateful that I decided to do it. Receiving the acceptance to this internship and all I am learning has made this experience the best in my life. I struggled to finish college when I first attended. The balance between school and work was difficult for me, while also trying to manage my mental health. I am extremely passionate about the degree I am trying to obtain, a B.A. in Environmental Studies with an emphasis on Environmental Sustainability and Social Justice. I am also excited to be pursuing a certificate in Climate Change Causes, Impacts and Solutions

My Name is Caleb Adkins, I'm a Junior (2nd semester). Currently majoring in Business Administration: w/ a concentration in Marketing. I'm also receiving a minor in: Hospitality Tourism Management. I'm originally from Kansas City, KS (Olathe). Most recently I have become a part of the President Leadership Fellow's Alumni. Growing up I played multiple sports and was involved in several clubs. However, I have always had a passion to lead others and engage in a way that might change a life. For that reasoning I'm here graciously selected to be a part of this fellowship. My goal is to one open up a Non-profit which works on more inclusiveness no matter what limitations an individual or family might face.
