Treaty of Versailles 1919

The treaty of Versailles marked the end of WWl. It was an armistice agreement from the Allied Powers to the Central Powers. It was a set of demands a consequences given to the Central Powers, however it was mainly centered towards Germany.

1920s

Right after the war in the United States the economy was booming. Lots of changes were happening like women gaining the right to vote.

1929 The Great Depression

1929 was the start of the Great Depression. The Stock Market Crashed and food and other living necessities were scarce and hard to find. This was not only happening in the United States but around the world.

1933 Hitler's Rise to Power

In 1933, Hitler rose to power and declared himself chancellor of Germany. At that time he was also the leader of the Nazi Party. He rebelled against the Treaty of Versailles and made more weapons and improved the military despite the treaty. He also made two alliances. One with Benito Mussolini the dictator of Italy and Emperor Hirohito of Japan, together they formed the Axis Powers.

1939 Invasion of Poland

In 1939 Hitler and Germany invaded Poland despite the Treaty of Versailles. France and Great Britain then declared war along with countries like Belgium, Denmark, China, Greece, the Netherland, ect. Together they form the Allied Powers.

1940-1941 The London Blitz

During 1940 to 1941 Germany attacked Great Britain in a series of air attacks which is known today as the London Blitz. In total Germany bombed London seventy one times. Every time Germany bombed London the citizens had to cover in air raid shelters.

The Holocaust

Hitler believed that people with Jewish faith or religion were subhumans. Hitler put eleven million Jewish kids, adults, men, women, and babies into concentration camps, work camps, ghettos, and execution camps. The Holocaust was a horrible event killing millions of Jewish people leaving physical and mental scars.

1941 December 7 Pearl Harbor

On December seventh 1941 Japan surprised America and bombed one of our naval bases. This naval base Pearl Harbor was on one of the Hawaiian Islands. Because of this act Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war and joined forces with the Allied Powers.

June 6, 1945 D-Day

On June sixth, 1945 the Allied Powers planned a surprise attack on the Axis Powers. The Allied Powers invaded Nazi occupied Normandy, France. It was also known as Operation Overlord. This attack reversed the tide of World War two and the Allied Powers were in favor.

Battle of Paris 1945

In 1945 the Allies went to recapture Paris, and all of France. On this day Germany surrendered to the Allied Powers.

Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Even though Germany surrendered Japan still hadn't. Harry S. Truman ordered the Atomic bomb to be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two Japanese cities. This so far has been the only time a atomic bomb has be used. Later on Japan surrendered because of these bombings and World War two was finally over.
