Personal Statement

As a member of the next generation, I am determined to become an active contributor to society and help bring about positive change. I believe that enrolling at your college/sixth from will be a vital stepping stone toward achieving my academic and personal goals, thanks to its exceptional teaching and supportive learning environment.

I am passionate about the sciences and fascinated by how the world works. For A levels, I am eager to study Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology. Mathematics especially excites me because of its logical structure and problem-solving challenges. I currently attend weekly advanced maths masterclasses, where I’ve enjoyed exploring topics such as complex numbers and the number system.

One of the key reasons I am applying to your college is its outstanding Chemistry and Maths programmes. The school’s impressive results reflect a high standard of teaching, and I am confident that studying these subjects here will allow me to thrive and move closer to my ambition of becoming a scientist and mathematician.

Outside the classroom, I actively participate in extracurricular activities including athletics, basketball, football, and chess club. These experiences have helped me develop valuable skills such as teamwork, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence. I believe these qualities will support my growth as a future leader and help me make a meaningful impact on society.

Another important distinction to make is that college and sixth form, although very similar, are not actually the same thing;

A sixth form typically caters to students aged 16 to 19 years old who wish to study A-levels, vocational courses, and (in some colleges) T-levels. 

Further Education colleges are very similar to sixth form except they typically admit students aged 16+, meaning they also do adult learning, and provide vocational courses, including business, IT, Creative Media, Construction, Plumbing and more.

So what should you choose?

Well that question could have multiple answers but to keep it simple, you should consider at least three important things; 

Location - What kind of institution do you have near you? If you would like to study somewhere that is near to home then this can influence your choice, is the nearest establishment a college or a sixth form? What options do they offer? How long would your commute be everyday? How much will the commute cost each month?

Options - If you have decided what you; want to study, are interested in or might like to do in future, then you also need to consider if the institutions you are most interested in actually have the classes that you want to do. If you live near a performing arts college but you want to study business management, then it would not be logical to apply for that college unless they offer a business course.

Environment - Have you attended the taster sessions? Have you toured the buildings(s)? Have you met the teachers? Knowing what the school environment is like, who will be teaching the course, and the teaching styles can be extremely important because you will be there for hours at a time for most of the week. 

Our taster day is a great opportunity for any YR11 still looking for their post-16 option to experience what it's like studying a creative course in music, media, games, esports or computing, by taking part in a fun practical activity.
