Also, the setting can change the tone. For example, in Chapter 9 Victor arrives at his house feeling lots of grief. In Chapter 10 Victor is hiking in the mountains, and the peace and calm reduce his feelings of depression and grief. The characterization can also affect the tone of a chapter, depending on their personality. For example, a gloomy, rude, angry person's thoughts will have an angry or mad tone.
