-We resonated with the fact that literacy professionals are split into two areas, student-facing and teacher-facing, but that these roles must work together to be effective

-We are excited about being able to work closely and help students grow. Especially for those that work in content areas (social studies), we are excited to bring in our literacy instruction alongside content. Additionally, helping other teachers grow and implement effective literacy instruction into their own classroom is exciting.

-We would like more cooperation between literacy specialists and coaches. Instruction should be cooperative and planned beforehand.

-If there is not specific position, one step is to cooperate with literacy specialists in other schools/districts. You can also meet with your fellow teachers to do some initial discussion and planning regarding literacy. Finally, you can be a driving factor for change and encourage (or harass) your school to create such a position.

Something that resonated with our group is that there is a difference between literacy coaches and reading specialists. We did not know that there was a difference between the two.

Something that we are excited about is being able to provide meaningful small group literacy instruction to students. We are also looking forward to using content that we are learning to benefit us as classroom teachers.

Something that we agreed to want more support in is changing curriculum. If there are any changes to curriculum, we would want to have those changes communicated with us through training, professional development, or even hands on support during instruction.

If our school doesn't have a specific literacy specialist position, we would try to communicate with reading teachers in the school if we needed support. We would also use our principal to see who we would need to reach out to in order to receive literacy support.
