Food for the poor was very different in contrast to what rich people had for food.
To begin, the poor had limited, low quality, and sometimes even rotten food. For breakfast they would have toast and maybe eggs only because that's what they could afford. Most poor families had potato pairings, rotten vegetables unless they had gotten lucky. This would typically be the dish of the day. These families would only have meat 2-3 times a month. At times they would get tinned meat because it cheaper.

The rich were the people that had the most food and were the food providers for many poor families. They thought and felt they were the best therefore leading them to waste food. For breakfast the rich would have a better meal than those served at modern day hotels. However, a typical meal would include meat everyday, fresh vegetables and milk, and usually bacon and cheese for super.

Keeping food refrigerated was an issue during this time as there were no,well, refrigerators. So how did they keep the food fresh?
The answer is that they didn't. If they had over bought food they would have to throw the food out and buy more the next day from local shops and grocers although families that had a farm had more of an advantage.
