El 3 de gener de 1874, el general Pavía va donar un colp d'estat i a decembre de 1874 va restaurar la monarquia de Alfons XII.

- Pi y Margall (11 de juny fins al18 de juliol 1873)

- Salmerón (18 de juliol fins el 7 de septembre de 1873)

Presidents de la república:

- Figueras  (1819/11/13 - 1882/11/11)

- Pi y Margall (1832/09/07 - 1899/05/25)

- Salmerón  (1838/04/10 - 1908/09/20)

- Castelar (1832/09/07 - 1899/05/25)

Manuel Pavía(1828 - 1895) va ser un dels persontages més importants  ja que va donar un colp d'estat amb l'ajuda de l'exercit.

Francisco Serrano(1810 - 1885) va ser altre general que va  aceptar el càrrec de president.

Arsenio Martínez(1831- 1900) va restaurar a decembre de 1874 la monarquia de Alfons XII (El pacificador)

Uns del majors problemes va ser els conflictes bèl·lics tant internacional com nacional, com la Guerra de Cuba i la Guerra Carlista, açò ens va influir molt.

També van tindre problemes dins del band republicà, divint-se en federalistes i unitaries, els federalistes buscant l' organizació formada per organismes, i els unitaris buscaven el poder sencer del gobern.

Amb aquestos problemes l'exercit va retornar l'ordre, Pavía va donar un colp  d'estat, i Serrano es va
convertir en president.
