Hi! I'm Adrienne Marie C. Tamdang, a 20 year old Entertainment and Multimedia Computing student. My main interests and hobbies include:

🎮 playing games (primarily multiplayer/co-op games) such as Valorant, MLBB, Roblox and the like
🎨 making art for my self-indulgence
🎤 singing my heart out, as in Pinoy fashion, I love songs where you really have to belt it all out
🍳 cooking, and I'm still studying how to better cook classic Pinoy cuisine

My main interest nowadays is definitely gaming! Although I don't have time for these types of games, I once was an avid gacha game player, juggling 3 at a time because I enjoyed it. A specific gacha game I used to be quite big on were the gacha games produced by the chinese company Hoyoverse (previously known as MiHoYo).

My Favorite Hoyoverse Game of All Time

While I am a mostly retired gacha game player, I cannot deny that a good portion of my days as a gacha game player were spent poring hours into Hoyoverse's hit game Honkai Impact 3rd.

I was captivated by its story and dynamic and fast-paced gameplay, and a lot of my era as a gacha game player, I feel, was defined by this game alone. HI3rd left such a strong impact on me that even to this day, after retiring, I still think about the game and look back upon so many fond memories with it and begin to miss it just a little bit.

Gacha games like these have, in the recent years, definitely gotten popular in the Philippines, especially among the youth. While this game specifically didn't get as much traction, the next game in Part B specifically is surely far more recognizable...

The 4th Impact

Upon release, Genshin Impact took the world by storm. It was a highly anticipated game that launched during the beginnings of the pandemic, introducing a beautiful open world with fantastic anime graphics, lovable anime characters, and multiplayer. In a sense, it really called out to the Filipinos' known love for anime and the need for social interaction during a bleak time where we were all locked in our homes. Genshin Impact dominated the video game market and still stands strong and is highly loved by many Filipinos to this day. I chose this specific piece of Pop Culture specifically because while I don't particularly play it anymore, there was a time in my life where I played it constantly, and personally, the phenomenon of how fast GI took the hearts of youths and how much it changed the anime and videogame world of Filipinos so quickly fascinates me greatly.

The Aftermath of the Impact

Genshin Impact has definitely left its mark especially for the youth. Being a highly beloved game with appealing characters, it's easy to make merch out of. GI dominates the anime merch market nowadays, and no anime merchandise store or stall goes without at least one variety of GI merchandise. From stickers to figures to cosplay, GI is practically everywhere.

In a way, GI has become a staple in pop culture. Nowadays, people no longer ask you if you play Minecraft or Roblox; often times, they now ask you "Hey, do you play Genshin Impact?" And it has become so popular that people also begin to play it not only for entertainment, but for belongingness and identity. If you were or are a player, GI becomes a part of your identity in society too, as many people will know you as a fan of it. Even the merchandise you buy, as mentioned, also solidifies this identity of being a GI player. And more often than not, when you socialize with other youths, GI is something that will be brought up one way or another.

While HI3rd left the strongest impact on me, Fate/Grand Order was definitely my first, and for me, is the gacha game original. Fate is a particularly popular anime series in the Philippines, with Fate/Zero being one of the most known, and it even aired on Hero channel (dubbed, of course)! Filipinos love anime and they definitely loved Fate's main girl, Artoria Pendragon, but for me, my favorite is Charlemagne!

The Best Pancit There Is

On the topic of cooking, one could argue bihon is the best Filipino dish, but my personal favorite is palabok! The rich and savory flavor of the sauce and the shrimp, the meat bits, and the slight acidity from the calamansi squeezed in is perfection. Unfortunately, palabok isn't as commonly seen in Filipino parties as the country's favorite spaghetti. I wish it was more prominent, though!

Valorant, The FPS for LoL Players

Produced by the creators of League of Legends comes Valorant, a tactical FPS that calls to the competitiveness inside every Filipino. It has definitely left its mark as one of the most played FPS with a large Filipino community, and continues to be a Filipino favorite. Of course, I also answered the Valorant calling and play whenever I can.

And of course, how can we forget every Filipino's favorite pastime, Mobile Legends? I've been playing since I was a kid and still do. ML's community is so largely Filipino, and almost everybody you know has probably tried it at least once. It isn't rare to see someone on your commute or waiting line playing one round!
