The Arrest!

Hinton was arrested on July 31, 1985, and charged with the murders based on the allegations that a revolver taken from his mother's home was the gun used in the crimes.

Wrongful conviction:

A 2002 firearms examination by three independent experts determined that the bullets could not have been fired from the revolver taken from Hinton's mother's home.

The vindication:

After years of legal battles, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the lower courts and granted a new trial. The charges were eventually dismissed, and Hinton was released on April 3, 2015, after 29 years, and 8 months, incarcerated for crimes he did not commit.
