Although the Wife of Bath has been through some difficult obstacles, such as being married at twelve, and having five different husbands, she still has the strength to carry on. Additionally the Queen in the Wife of Bath's Tale shows her power when she hints to her husband to spare the knight's life, and to allow for her to control his fate.

The tale of the Wife of Bath refers to the idea that women seek power and dominance in their relationships. In the tale, the Knight finds out that women seek sovereignty and a higher sense of status over their husband. This word effectively shows that women seek power as they wish to do as they please and gain some degree of control. Chaucer may be referring to a feminist idea that women want to be seen with more assertiveness and power in the world. The Wife can be representative of women attempting to seek more rights and power alongside men.

The wife of Bath marries for money, she flirts and romances men for selfish gain. She wants to fulfill her financial and sexual desires (gross, I know). I took it as Chaucer was maybe calling empowered women selfish, I don't know if it's appropriate to use a crude word, but maybe that's the point he's trying to get across. We talked a lot about how the story is feminist, but I think it could be the other way around.
