Smart TV technology is beneficial in many ways. One of the most important areas is patient education. For many people, hearing someone explain a topic or reading a handout is not the most effective way to learn. With the Smart TV, patient education can be more captivating with the use of visual aids, the education could be more understandable for the patients. Another benefit of using the TV for education is that it can be viewed at the patient’s convenience, such as when they are eating lunch. The patient can use the TV not only for educational purposes but to order their meals as well. The Smart TV menu also includes a section for hospital information, such as visiting hours, address, cafeteria locations and other frequently asked items. It quickens the discharge process since the patient can view their discharge education on the TV. Patients can enjoy movies and regular TV programming.

I think integrating a Smart TV system would be a wonderful benefit for patients and for staff as well. I think the education the videos can provide would be more thorough if staff also do a follow-up with the patient in case they have any questions afterward. The idea of being able to order meals is a great way to prevent patients from being angry that they meal they received is not what they ordered.
