In this video, the people were discussing a time period in which it would be beneficial to rent or buy. They established that any person looking at a long term investment longer than four or five years, then it would be better for buying. However, if you are unsure of your employment or are a "transient" as one of the men says, then it would be beneficial to rent.

https://globalnews.ca/news/1865754/infographic-to-buy-or-not-to-buy-that-is-the-question/

This video lists ten things you need to know about buying a house. This shows us that buying a house is not only more expensive under 5 years of owning as well as more efforts needed to do to buy a house. This requires a large amount of attention to detail, a more put together plan, and more dedication to owning. So, if you are unsure of your future, (as stated in a previous post) or where you will be working, then house buying is not for you.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2016/01/05/10-things-you-absolutely-need-to-know-about-buying-a-home/#784271394158

This article is all about the pros and cons of renting or buying; which is better? what is cheaper? etc.
The thing that jumps out at me is the fact that renting doesn't get you any equity on your home, nothing to hand off to your children, or inflation with uprising costs due to fixed mortgage rates. These are massive factors weighing in the direction of home owning. However, mortgages are usually the length of 25-30 years which will be daunting to a lot of people who are unsure of there future, or whether they are spontaneous people who like to travel.

http://www.thetruthaboutmortgage.com/renting-vs-buying-55-pros-and-cons/

This article talks about the rise in rental costs year by year. Fortunately for renters, there are laws that keep increase rates to a minimum (of 1.8 % in 2018). Even though laws are in place, they are still able to increase rental rates year by year, which will eventually make it nearly impossible for many renters to be able to afford renting.

https://news.ontario.ca/mho/en/2017/06/ontario-capping-rent-increases-for-tenants-in-2018.html

As stated in this video, Renters spend roughly half of their income on rent. That is a lot of money going into someone else's pocket that could be going into a house that will open doors for equity, or retirement that you wont still; be paying rent to stay in a house. Even though renting may seem cheaper in the short run, it will be far more costly in the long run. This is a fact because after a homeowners amortization period, fees become minimal, whereas renting either stays the same price or increases due to inflation.

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/09/18/look-the-most-and-least-affordable-provinces-to-rent-an-apartment_a_23213795/

What I learned about this topic that was very surprising was the fact that mortgage rates will continue to be the same price regardless of inflation rates. This is very surprising and beneficial for people looking to buy a home.

This topic s relevant to me because I will be finishing school within a year and deciding what I want to be doing as far as living arrangements go ( buying or renting). With the knowledge I have gained from this assignment. It has made it very clear that I want to be owning a house instead of renting as it seems like the best pathway for my career and life style.
