Students demonstrate their understanding of physical and human geographic features of places and regions in California by creating a brochure of the 4 regions in the state. Students will be able to identify the regions being coast, desert, mountain, and Central Valley. (ex. Students create a brochure highlighting 4 different National Parks in California. Each National Park will represent a different California region. Channel Islands National Park- the coast; Death Valley National Park- the desert; Yosemite National Park- the mountains, and Lassen Volcanic National Park- the Central Valley.) As a bonus the National Parks Service offers a free program to 4th graders called 'Every Kid Outdoors'. The program provides the student and their families free access to explore Federal Public Lands. Encourage students to explore, or depending on where the school is located, a field trip could possibly be arranged.
