Im guilty of keeping students at dependent levels usually bc of time constraints. I need to slow down and do more richness/depth with less assignments...still trying to figure that out!

Create rubrics and checklists and have them posted so that students can refer to them as needed instead of relying on the teacher to verbally walk them through the assignment or project multiple times.

I like this component..."Rigor asks one to be comfortable with ambiguity, failure, and confusion." I think this is a huge hurdle for the struggling students. they have very little stamina when they come to a block wall in their learning - finding that uphill climb towards understanding is a 'workout" that students need to learn and what I need to focus on as a teacher.

Use videos to improve on teaching and student learning. She referred to having classroom video as being similar to video taped footage in football games. They use it to improve on their game. We as teacher can also use videos to improve. The videos can also be shared with students.
Sometimes, when we do a lesson, we wonder how it went, whether is was effective or just chaotic. by making a video we can use this to reflect on our teaching.

How do I help dependent learners who are more into socializing than learning. They have checked out and don't care to return to learning! It has shocked me tremendously and feel frustrated that I can not reach them no matter what.

I like the comment of doing the "dynamic dance" in the classroom - teacher, student, instruction - we need to assess every moment with our dependent learners - helping them find the progressive struggle I think she called it. learning comes with struggles and stretches to get to the understanding at hand.

I teach PE and when we are learning a new concept such as throwing a football I usually go the traditional route of directly showing, then guiding, then independent practice. During independent practice is where I can make my lessons more meaningful by creating independent learners. I need to supply more visual supports for my students. This will allow the students to go check visual supports instead of waiting for me to come personally show them again. This does not mean I would not be directly addressing students. I’m only one person so when 10 students need assistance, instead of waiting for me to address them, they could be in more of a self-discovery mode which is helping create independent learners.
