He said this after German secret agents assassinated the Jewish philosopher Theodor Lessing in Czechoslovakia, the Nazis who had already stolen Einstein’s savings, raided his summerhouse, destroyed his Berlin apartment and taken his violin, offered a reward of at least $1,254 for his murder.

German Revenge

Albert was wanted by the Nazis with all the Harm he caused to the Germans. If they couldn’t kill him they would do the next best thing. They would go after his first cousin in Italy. Robert was a scientist like Albert but not as popular. When the armed German unit arrived at Roberts home on 3 August 1944, they could not find Him. So they brutally murdered his wife and two daughters, Luce and Cici, instead.

Albert received a letter informing him of his Italian family’s tragedy. No records have survived as to how he reacted. We do know how his sister Maja responded. She lived with Albert at the time he received the news and she said it gave her nightmares and she felt broken.
