This is a major blow to one of Australia's biggest coal miners and its plans to dig five massive new coal projects.
The Move Beyond Coal movement took what should have been a simple job for Whitehaven Coal — renewing a loan it had renewed 3 times before — and in the space of 10 months scuttled the entire deal.
Even Whitehaven's 2.65 billion in cash pile couldn't convince carbon conscience lenders. His bill calls for new conditions in Climate Change Act to influence decision-making on projects that could raise greenhouse gas emissions.
