He was born on 5 January 1941, since he was young he was interested in manga comics and animation, in 1963 he joined Toei Animation ( which is a famous japanese animation studio ).

His first years at Toei Animation he worked with Isao Takahata, later in 1985 they founded Studio Ghibli in collaboration with the society Tokuma Shoten.

He worked really hard, and the 10 animation films that he made became famous all over the world.

 The most famous of them are: Nausicaä of the valley of the wind, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and The Wind Rises.

He collaborated with some famous american animation houses like: Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

The soundtracks of his animation film were produced by his friend and collaborator Joe Hisaishi, a worldwide composer and musician; with his orchestra he came to Udine to give a Concert in 2015. 

In 2013 Hayao Miyazaki retired, but The Wind Rises wasn’t his last work, he made an animation film, Boro the Caterpillar, this animation film lasts 14 minutes and it tells the story of a little caterpillar’s life.

For his retirement he received in 2014 a Lifetime Achievement Oscar.
