By looking at both styles of design similar to the town I think I could create something really different.

I want to go down the route of displaying it as an old-style newspaper, with the text as the articles and title as the main headline. So I've looked at newspaper designs, minimalistic and modern designs, and will try to merge the two as I want to play with the theme that the town is trying to be something it's not, like a chameleon.

Pinterest Board: https://pin.it/lHzRO6S

I can write, I love to write, but I think because I am new to this place I can't find what feels like an authentic hook for a story. However I have gotten some great inspiration from all of your workshop challenge submissions from last week so thanks for that. St. Ives has such a rich artistic heritage you'd think that a visual culture essay would come easily, but I just don't want to write a historic overview of the town! Regardless I will be posting my week 6 submission and charging into my draft imminently.

... despite (not yet officially...) presenting my two ideas for the project, I'm reassessing whether I should actually be going down the 'legacy of the Olympics' path. The original material I can find in the local archives, library, community, and the internet veers from the official not-propaganda-but-you-know-what-I-mean to the council minutes to the incredible negative internet blogs. I'm not getting far because it's not grabbing me and I also can't 'see' the audience.
Instead, I'm considering extending week 1's project of typography in my local area. There is a history of printing here, as well as Kelmscott Press set up by William Morris, that I haven't covered yet and at the community centre a wealth of new information (so I'm not just riffing off Week 1). Type is what gets me excited and I feel I can play around with different papers, bindings, cutouts, production values to make a tactile sketchbook of the history of typography in E17.

@Stuart @Richard @Syed what do you think?

Using things like player stats as ‘credentials’ and avatars rather than real life photographs to represent the people I’ve spoken to both seemed like good ways of doing this.

There’s a Pokémon event on at Arrow Valley this weekend so I’ll be taking my camera down to get some pictures too.
