There was no settlements people were hunters they didn't settle in one they moved around. Then they learned how to farm so they settled beside rivers. The first settlements were called semi-settlements as villagers needed to move to find permeant supply of food. This lead to the creation of villages then towns then cities and as the industrial revolution happened and due to this jobs were created and people moved from the villages to the city.
This lead to cities developing more services like fire stations, police , roads and electricity.
The future of cities in the urban areas cities will have to change to provide food, sanitation and education and find ways not to damage the Earth we live in like renewable energy and vertical buildings.

The four aspects that would affect my choice for living in a settlement are:

1. Water. Because me as a person I drink around 6L of water a day so water is crucial.

Access to water - The ability to access water is extremely important to the development of different settlements as they can use the water for drinking, cleaning and, if viable, a waterway for trade with other settlements

2. Natural Resources. Because most world powers like USA, UK, UAE. Have Oil and Natural gas which m add them crazy rich.

Natural Resources - Availability of natural resources is an important consideration; for instance, access to supplies of wood and stone helps with the building and development of the settlement. Being close to a lake or the sea can provide a plentiful supply of fish.

3. Aspect/Shelter. It’s way better to have mountains, rivers, oceans as natural shelters like France, than just plain open land for anyone to invade like Poland. And also to have good weather like Italy than cold or hot weathers like Iceland or Kuwait.

Aspect/Shelter - Aspect refers to the positioning of a settlement: locations with a good aspect can enjoy more moderate climates, which help settlements to develop. Shelter refers to protection for the settlement: a settlement at the foot of a mountain may be protected from the weather.

4. Function. Because if your land is vulnerable for natural disasters like Japan or The Philippines then building will be more costly and harder to build to ensure safety and functionality.

Function - A final consideration when choosing the location for a settlement is if it’s to fulfill a particular function. For instance, a farming settlement needs access to fertile land for farming, a fishing settlement needs to be near the coast or a lake, and a mining town needs convenient access to the mines. Some settlements are established as satellite towns; this means that they are set to have excellent transport links to larger city.

Water Access :
We can not live without water because safety and readily available water is important for public health, whether it is used for drinking, domestic use, food production or recreational purposes. Improved water supply and sanitation and better management of water resources, can boost countries' economic growth and can contribute greatly to poverty reduction.

Defense:
First, you can keep your personal injury settlements separate from all other forms of income and keep that money in a separate bank account. This will prevent creditors from being able to take that money away from you in the future. Another option is to use a prepaid credit card.

Natural resources:
Natural resources play an important role in our lives. They are essential to the world’s economic, social and environmental well-being. We rely on natural resources for food, water, fuel, and much more. But beyond their daily utility, natural resources play a significant role in keeping the environment healthy and sustainable.

Aspect/shelter:
Shelter separates people from their surroundings. It provides a place for families to cook, eat, sleep, and raise their children. It protects them from extreme temperatures, strong winds, and storms. Shelter provides privacy and safety from human and animal enemies.

Case study 1 - Hong Kong

Hong Kong was just a small area ruled by many different Chinese dynasties. In the Opium war in 1842 The British Empire invaded the Qing dynasty, it conquered Hong Kong and won the war. The British saw an advantage to Hong Kong’s strategic location in the South China Sea, so it decided to build a port. They benefited and earned a lot of money during their ruling of the small colony. In 1997 Hong Kong was returned to the PRC, but until 2047 Hong Kong is an autonomous part of China. But now Hong Kong developed drastically after it was handed back, as now it has the most amount of skyscrapers in the world.

Case study 2 - London

London was from a long time developed. But one horrible night in January 26 1666, there was the great fire of London. Many buildings collapsed, but after that London started making and renovated many buildings. Now it’s one of the most populated cities in the world.

Case study 3 - Mexico City

Mexico City, (known before as Tenochtitilan) was built buy the Spanish Empire one a lake. Then when Mexico gained independence from Spain in the early-1800’s it changed the name to Mexico City. Now it’s a megacity with over 15 million people.

Urban growth is when a country/city that experiences growth in their population.
When many people move to a specific area the “area” experiences urban growth.

My settlement is about New York:

Some basic information:
Back in the 1700’s New York (before New Amsterdam) was colonized by the Dutch, but later on The British Empire decided to conquer New Amsterdam so she could own the whole of the North American continent. So it declared war on the Dutch and successfully occupied the land.

First bullet:
New York was established in 1624 by the Dutch as
“New Amsterdam”. It was established due to the amazing reachability and access to the Atlantic Sea whilst having a good port (mostly around Staten Island). When the Brits rolled in and that stuff everything was the same except the name changed into “New York”. Fast forward to the USA gaining sovereignty and now owning New York nothing changed with the until a century and a half later.

Second bullet:
In WW1 many immigrants decided to move to the USA for quote, “A better life” (don’t know if thats true anymore >:0). So the State of New York decided to turn Ellis Island into an immigration office for all the immigrants (since planes weren’t that popular at that time). It worked. Before Chinese and Italian immigrants moved, and due to the sheer amounts of them there are neighborhoods called “Chinatown” and “Little Italy”. Nowadays most of the immigrants coming to New York and the USA in general are from the MENA region. New York mostly developed around skyscrapers with iconic ones being Chrysler Building, The Empire State Building, World Trade Center (which got bombed in 2001 AKA 9/11 attack), One World Trade Center (the new building that replaced the previously mentioned one), and 111 West 57th Street (AKA the thinnest skyscraper in the world).

My settlement is in New Cairo. It’s a place that has a lot of compounds and next to it random buildings . My settlement develops on compounds and shopping malls and our government always build shopping malls and new facilities and give developers to build compounds. My settlement at first didn’t have a loot of people living in it. After a while schools and clubs and shopping malls were built so people started to come and live in the settlement. There are some issues in my settlement like main roads that are not complete, polluting the environment by working and building. My settlement has to work more friendly with the environment and they even started that by using green energy and building places for solar energy.
