I think that having a discussion with the teacher, student/students involved, as well as any other stakeholders, allows the student who did the behavior to know that their actions affect others. So many of our students have a difficult time thinking of anyone but themselves, so they don’t understand that their actions affect others. This would allow them to see that their actions hurt others’ feelings.

I like the idea of creating successful mediations for all parties involved in conflict, including the class being affected as a whole. I believe that this will promote an overall culture in which students will be aware of how their unsuccessful resolutions of conflict can have a negative effect on their peers.

Implementing the strategies gives student(s) ownership over the behavior begging addressed. Therefore providing opportunities for students to gain comfort in taking on responsibility Of their own actions.

I agree that our students do not have enough restorative practices both through words and actions! Glad to see that we are making this our focus and going to try to begin the dialogue towards making that our school norm. Our kids cannot be sent out into the world without the ability to take ownership for their actions. Whether they become the next president or a Walmart worker, either way, conflict resolution will be one of the biggest tools we could ever give them. Yes.... even more so than math, science, and ELA.
