The Church of San Francisco was founded by the Franciscan friars in the 16th century during the Spanish colonial era in Argentina.  SAN JUAN BAUTISTA DE LA MERCED CHURCH

THE CHURCH WAS BUILT IN 1910 AND INAUGURATED IN 1914. THE ARCHITECT IN CHARGE OF THE CONSTRUCTION WAS SANTIAGO ZIEGELMAN. THE TEMPLE IS LOCATED IN A COMPLETELY URBAN AREA, ITS ECLECTICISM SURPRISES THE ENTIRE CITY. THE WORK OF THE TEMPLE IS IN THE NEO-GOTHIC STYLE. HE CHURCH OF LA MERCED PROTECTS THE CROSS “TO THE VICTORS AND VANQUISHED ” THAT BELGRANO SET UP TO HONOR THE 480 FALLEN ROYALISTS AND THE 103 PATRIOTS IN A COMMON GRAVE.
