         <description><![CDATA[<div>During WWII Congress passed the nation's first peacetime military draft, The Selective Training, and Service Act. Under this 16 million men between ages 21-35 were registered to be drafted.  1 million of these 16 million men were to be drafted for one year but were only to serve in the Western Hemisphere. </div>]]></description>

Around 350,00 women served in this and other axuilary branches during the war. During this time women proved themselves as more than just people who stay home and can't do real work. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Minority Groups &amp; Their Military Service</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>WWII created much different racial inequality between different minority groups. These groups were restricted to segregrated neighborhoods and reservations and denied basic citizenship. These people questioned whether this was their war to fight because why fight for a country that clearly does not want them there, and is being unfair to them because of their background. </div>]]></description>

Congress also raised income tax rates and extended the tax to millions of people who had never paid it before. The government encourged others to use their spare money to purchase war bonds. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Office of Price Administration set up a rationlizing system which limited the amount of goods people could consume because the military needed these goods. Households recieved ration books which had coupons that would be used for buying scarce goods. Rationining was a personal contribution to the war. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>War bonds were a common thing throughout WWII and they were a debt security issued by the government to finance military operation during the time of the war. War bonds offered a rate of return below the market rate, and investments were achieved by making emotional appeals and showing patriotism to lend the government money for the war.</div>]]></description>
