Claim: Willy's constant struggle to pick up the pieces of his life and his desperation to obtain the remote success of a dead salesman, Dave Singleman, he forces himself into insanity. 
Evidence:  
- He wants to have the "Death of a salesman", where everyone comes and celebrates your life because they genuinely liked you.
- Willy's disparity showed when he got fired as he continued begging for a job and lowered the price after every denial.

Claim: Willy wants to be liked by everyone and bases their compliments on his happiness.
Willy strives to be liked by everyone, he must feel liked by others or else he won't feel good about himself. His happiness depends on others compliments to lift him up like a reassurance for his ego. Claim: Most people have huge ambitions and hopes but many times their hopes become too big and the people are let down.

    Willy's planting symbolizes the false hope. He thinks he will reach success and his son will swim in his dream as well. The garden is dry and lifeless represents the reality of  Willy's American Dream.

• Linda tells Willy that nothing will grow in the beginning. This foreshadows that Willy won't reap any fruits from his work.
• Willy is gardening at the end to no effect. This shows how he's given up on life because he hasn't contributed anything to the world.

Claim: Pride is a factor to the downfall of Willy Loman. He doesn't want his family to know that he hasn't been making as much money, also he doesn't want to accept any help or the fact that he is burnt out.
Evidence 
~ Early in the play when Willy returns home, Linda tells him about all the things they need to pay this month and the amount of money he needs to bring in, because he isn't bringing in that type of money Linda suggests that he borrow it from Charley which sends Willy into a rage. 
~In act two, it's revealed why Biff hates Willy so much. In the flashback, Biff finds Willy with his mistress and Willy immediately goes on defense saying he has done nothing wrong. Claim: In The Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller uses seeds to symbolize the dreams that the Willie had.
Evidence:
- Everytime Willy plants seeds that never grow yet he keeps trying. This shows that a lot of Willy's dreams are unreasonable with the effort he puts in.
