The first thing you may think of when asked what the benefits of paid caregiving is would probably the financial support to help with medication, supplies, and food. The USA GOV shares information that many people may not know when fist starting caregiving. Medicaid has programs that cover long term insurance and paid family leave. This is so important because being a family caregiver IS a full time job. Having paid family leave for a caregiver gives people the support they need so they do not feel stressed or frustrated when having to call out of work to take care of their older adults.

After doing some research on current headlines related to paid caregiving I found an article that resonates with the state of Arizona specifically. In this article I learned that parents caregiving for their child or a minor can receive benefits such as financial support to help cover the costs of attendant care and habilitation. 2020 was the beginning of this opportunity for many parents caregiving for their minor during the Covid-19 Pandemic but has become an on going opportunity since then. During the pandemic nurses or caregiving workers eventually would leave the work force or call out sick leaving the parents to care for their child alone. But because of this act of security the AHCCCS made sure that each family was not left to fend for themselves in this time of lockdown.

This article goes on to give many different types of resources needed for caregivers. They add specific hotlines if needed such as Arizona Caregiver Resource Line:888-737-7494 or Caregiver Action Network Resource Line: 855-227-3640. Both of these hotlines are active during the week from 9am-4pm. During these calls you can connect with a volunteer to help you with any questions or resources you may need. This article also goes in to detail about the qualifications you may need in order to get paid as a family caregiver. They take you through the steps of each guideline such as age range, specific disability and type of support needed for different circumstances.

Theories of Paid Caregivers

This article contains a study that was conducted throughout New York State with the target group being patients of paid caregivers. The results of this survey gives us an idea of how caregivers are performing and what they need in order to continue this support for their recipients. After surveying 800 people 34.3% of people reported that a family member had received care from a caregiver 73.9% of those people reported that their home caregiver gave physical and emotional support such as medical needs and personal care. This article was very interesting to me as they went into detail about how caregivers provide for their older adult. The demand of paid caregivers has increased exponentially throughout the last decade and will continue to increase as time goes on. The field of caregiving is in need of people who will be willing to give the emotional and medical support a recipient needs. From the article there is hopes of increasing positions (by 1.5 million) of this specific field within the next 5 years.
