The iconic book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee dives into complex subjects inside a straightforward story. It is set in the 1930s and centers on a young girl named Scout Finch and her brother, Jem as they learn about justice from their father, who is a lawyer, Atticus Finch. We witness through Scout's eyes in the 31 chapters of the book how harsh realities can ruin innocence, but we also witness how empathy can overpower injustice if used right. The classic story "To Kill a Mockingbird" is still considered a classic because of its insightful observations about societal issues and human character.

I chose this image because it represents the initial, almost paradise-like island we saw at the beginning of the book. It also shows a path forward, surrounded by a dark thicket of trees. However, we see that the seemingly "easier path" leads to an ocean of regret, representing the poor choices that they would soon make.

The reason I chose this image is because it has elements which the other images didn’t have: the pavement reflects the courthouse, signifying that it had rained; it has color to it - other images were in black or white - making it look more realistic; and it says “Maycomb” on the courthouse. Even though that was not a detail in the book, I think that it is good for courthouse’s to have the townn’s name on them, to signify what and who they represent. Other images were also in the sketching style, which does look nice, but this one is more representational. The grey sky also matches the mood of a “tired town” - as said in my chosen quote.
