Nurul Izzaty binti Muhammad Aris
SIB1705-0511

Q: Construction superintendent Justin Clark had just been transferred to Saudi Arabia for two years to supervise the building of new state-of-the-art oil rigs for the Saudi government. Upon moving into their rented house, Justin and wife Lorna discovered several things that needed repair. The landlord, very happy to have rented the house on a two-years lease, was very prompt in responding to their request for repairs. However, when he arrived, Justin was not home, and the landlord entered the house without speaking or acknowledging Lorna's presence. The repairs proceeded under the landlord's supervision. Lorna was insulted and felt that the landlord's behavior was rude and disrespectful. Since she was the one home at the time, she thought the landlord should have discussed the repairs with her.
Why did the landlord ignore Lorna?

A: The reason why did the landlord ignore Lorna is because she is a woman. In Saudi Arabia, during the late 20th and early 21st century, woman rights in Saudi Arabia were limited in comparison to the right of women in many of its neighbour countries due to the strict sharia law in Saudi Arabia.

Based on GLOBE's Cultural Dimension, we can tell that this country practice the Gender Egalitarianism which an organization or a society minimize gender role differences and gender discrimination.

Steve Reichs wanted to catch of his supervisor by cracked his index finger and actually he want to catch his supervisor attention but the supervisor infuriated because Steve Reichs dont know the barriers of the communication which is the perceptual barriers and hand gestures barriers. The reason is because Frank doesn't study deeply about his workers culture which is how to communicate with them or the barriers to communication. The next reason is perceptual barriers because his workers perception when someone give them a gift or a stuff and they will assume that you are not a boss but you are just like their friends.

Steve Reichs, use non verbal communication to make contact with his boss by using hand gesture, maybe Steve Reichs was originally practice it in his origin cultue that his hand gesture which is crooked his index finger means normal and to catch someone attention, to him that action shows an innocent gestures but as for his boss it means rude and something bad. Our opinion is Steve Reichs doesn't study much enough about the culture that had been applied in the office itself.

He was invited to cocktail party reception. He attended the party 30 minutes late and he tried to greeted several groups and he noticed that some people seem to be upset. We believe that Stan Gorelick did not do enough preparation on the culture in Uraguay. Because when we want to work at another country the most important is we need to know the barrier of communication. And Stan Gorelick was lacking at perceptual barrier which is he came late at the cocktail party. Maybe for Uraguay people are really take serious in time manners. And that is why people seem to be upset. The solution that we can suggest is Stan need tog go through an Culture Training before he been sent to another country. He need to study deeply about the culture he want to go.

This is because the Japanese practice their culture to be polite, but the way that the Americans approach the Japanese is to harsh that cause misunderstanding to them. These are the reasons why the Japanese reject the joint venture with the Americans. To avoid this kind of case to happen, the American should study about the culture practiced in Japan before they make the joint venture so that they will consider the joint venture based on their attitude and politeness.😊

MUHAMMAD EHSANUDDIN BIN SUHAIMI SIB17050426

In the study case, it can be seen that Fred is doing multiple wrongdoings towards German business etiquette. First problems that are notified is, Fred shake hands with the German after entering the conference room instead of shaking hands with them before entering the conference room. Second notable mistakes that are made are, the friendly way of greeting and communicating with the Germans. Germans prefer direct and serious tone of communications because that shows a sign of respect to the higher rank. Next, the decision for Fred to make a joke to keep a relaxed tone in presenting is wrong. It is because the Germans prefer seriousness in serious situation. There’s always humour but only at the right time.

They can’t take a courageous stance towards the liberation of women and they can’t transcend that reality.

This situation clearly shows that Saudi Arabia represent the gender egalitarianism in GLOBE’s cultural dimension which the society there minimizes gender role differences and gender discrimination.

It is possible that the difference in culture is what made this unpredictable. As it maybe normal for them to seat with the public to give out things, it may seem unacceptable in other cultures. It is also part of the culture whn to receive gifts from people.

In France, professional protocol is a serious business for them.

Those people prefer to keep their professional life and family life very much separate.
