The most common are blood tests, specifically, ones looking for evidence of muscle damage. Normally, the cells of the body turn over slowly as part of your body’s general maintenance program, which fixes damaged cells and grows new ones. When cells are damaged, they leak out some proteins, which can be found in the blood. Since this is always happening all over the body, there is a low level of these proteins in the bloodstream all the time. Different parts of the body have different proteins - when there is an infection or some other injury to one particular type of cell in the body, there can be a spike in the proteins from that particular cell in the blood.

When you eat also plays a part in a healthy diet. The biggest food timing tip is eat breakfast. Breakfast literally means ‘to break the fast’ from your last meal at night to your first meal of the following day.

Breakfast skippers are more likely to be tempted by unhealthy choices later in the day and to eat bigger servings at their next meal. Teens who skip breakfast generally slack in studies and doesn’t give respect towards anyone .

Other food timing tips are:

Eat regularly: Eating regular meals at set times helps you to get all the servings from the five food groups. Aim for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and two snacks.

Listen to your body: Follow your body’s hunger and satiety signals (eat when you’re hungry and stop when – or before – you’re full).

Stop to eat: Take your time when you dine, and turn off the TV or computer. Notice your food, and your body’s signals.

Avoid eating dinner late at night: This gives your body time to digest and use the energy from your meal. Try a small glass of milk or a cup of decaffeinated or herbal tea if you need a late-night snack.

Eat larger at lunch and smaller at dinner: The body digests best at peak energy times, which occur from around noon until 3 pm. If you can’t handle a bigger lunch, try splitting it into two smaller meals and eating one at noon and the other mid-afternoon. Eating dinner an hour earlier also aids evening digestion.

Eat about 45 minutes after exercise: This will reduce the amount of energy being stored as fat because the body will give u the nutrients to stay strong

Sleep Deprivation Can Lead to Serious Health Problems

Heart disease.

Heart attack.

Heart failure.

Irregular heartbeat.

High blood pressure.

Stroke.

Diabetes

Sleep is important to a number of brain functions, including how nerve cells (neurons) communicate with each other. In fact, your brain and body stay remarkably active while you sleep. Recent findings suggest that sleep plays a housekeeping role that removes toxins in your brain that build up while you are awake.

Sleep Can Boost Your Immune System. ...

Gaining Zzz's Can Help Prevent Weight Gain. ...

Sleep Can Strengthen Your Heart. ...

Better Sleep = Better Mood. ...

Sleeping Can Increase Productivity. ...

Lack of Sleep Can Be Dangerous. ...

Sleep Can Increase Exercise Performance. ...

Sleep Improves Memory.

Keep a regular sleep-wake cycle. ...

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine in the four to six hours before bedtime.

Don't exercise within two hours of bedtime. ...

Don't eat large meals within two hours of bedtime.

Don't nap later than 3 p.m.

Sleep in a dark, quiet room with a comfortable temperature.

The primary signs and symptoms of sleep deprivation include excessive daytime sleepiness and daytime impairment such as reduced concentration, slower thinking, and mood changes. Feeling extremely tired during the day is one of the hallmark signs of sleep deprivation.18

Importance of sleep for physical health

But sleep is as important for good health as diet and exercise. Good sleep improves your brain performance, mood, and health. Not getting enough quality sleep regularly raises the risk of many diseases and disorders. These range from heart disease and stroke to obesity and dementia.

Sleep experts say we should get at least seven hours of slumber each night. But as many as one in three Americans routinely sleeps for less than six hours—a trend that can have serious health ramifications.

A single night of poor sleep can leave you feeling cranky and unmotivated. You may be too tired to work efficiently, to exercise, or to eat healthfully. And over time, continued sleep deprivation raises the risk for a number of chronic health problems, including obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Insufficient sleep can also leave you more vulnerable to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. There's even some evidence that insufficient sleep makes your more prone to the common cold if you're exposed to the cold virus.

In rare cases, insufficient sleep can even more dangerous. A sleep shortfall can lead to daytime drowsiness and "microsleeps." Microsleeps are brief bouts of sleep that occur during the day that usually last just a few seconds. If you've ever briefly nodded off while sitting through a lecture, you've experienced a microsleep. They usually last just a few seconds but can go on for 10 or 15 seconds—and pose a grave danger if they happen while you're driving.

During a microsleep, your brain does not respond to noise or other sensory inputs, and you don't react to things happening around you. Because people are poor judges of when microsleeps will occur (and are equally poor at preventing them), they're a major factor in many motor vehicle accidents. One in 24 American drivers admitted to falling asleep while driving at least once in the previous month, according to a government report. The National Department of Transportation estimates that each year, drowsy driving is responsible for 1,550 fatalities and 40,000 nonfatal injuries in the United States.

So how do you combat insuficient sleep? The best solution is to figure out how many hours of sleep are right for you and then stick with it—even on weekends, holidays, and vacations. Basic lifestyle changes that promote sleep can also help. Exercise, avoiding caffeine, and practicing good sleep hygiene are some of the ways to get your best rest.

Obesity—Several studies have linked insufficient sleep and weight gain. For example, one study found that people who slept fewer than six hours per night on a regular basis were much more likely to have excess body weight, while people who slept an average of eight hours per night had the lowest relative body fat of the study group.1 Another study found that babies who are "short sleepers" are much more likely to develop obesity later in childhood than those who sleep the recommended amount.2

Diabetes—Studies have shown that people who reported sleeping fewer than five hours per night had a greatly increased risk of having or developing type 2 diabetes.3,4 Fortunately, studies have also found that improved sleep can positively influence blood sugar control and reduce the effects of type 2 diabetes.5

Cardiovascular disease and hypertension—A recent study found that even modestly reduced sleep (six to seven hours per night) was associated with a greatly increased the risk of coronary artery calcification, a predictor of future myocardial infarction (heart attack) and death due to heart disease.6 There is also growing evidence of a connection between sleep loss caused by obstructive sleep apnea and an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, stroke, coronary heart disease, and irregular heartbeat.7

Immune function—Interactions between sleep and the immune system have been well documented. Sleep deprivation increases the levels of many inflammatory mediators, and infections in turn affect the amount and patterns of sleep.8 While scientists are just beginning to understand these interactions, early work suggests that sleep deprivation may decrease the ability to resist infection (see The Common Cold, below).

Common Cold – In a recent study, people who averaged less than seven hours of sleep a night were about three times more likely to develop cold symptoms than study volunteers who got eight or more hours of sleep when exposed to the cold-causing rhinovirus. In addition, those individuals who got better quality sleep were the least likely to come down with a cold. 9

Physical (such as ulcers).

Medical (such as asthma).

Psychiatric (such as depression and anxiety disorders).

Environmental (such as alcohol).

Working the night shift (this work schedule messes up “biological clocks.”)

Genetics (narcolepsy is genetic).

Medications (some interfere with sleep).

Sleep disorder. These include insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and restless legs syndrome.

Aging. People older than 65 have trouble sleeping because of aging, medicine they're taking, or health problems they're having.

Illness. ...

Other factors.

Delayed sleep phase disorder is most common in adolescence, presenting as difficulty falling asleep and awakening at socially acceptable times. Treatment involves good sleep hygiene and a consistent sleep-wake schedule, with nighttime melatonin and/or morning bright light therapy as needed

Sleep deprivation increases the likelihood teens will suffer myriad negative consequences, including an inability to concentrate, poor grades, drowsy-driving incidents, anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide and even suicide attempts.

8 Tricks For Falling Asleep Faster

Get into a bedroom routine. ...

Arrange your bedroom for maximal sleepability. ...

Don't use your phone as an alarm clock. ...

Practice deep breathing. ...

Relax the muscles in your toes. ...

Occupy your mind with a mental exercise. ...

Get out of bed. ...

Get your worries out of your head

The body releases the sleep hormone melatonin later at night in teens than in kids and adults. This resets the body's internal sleep clock so that teens fall asleep later at night and wake up later in the morning.

73% Don't Get Enough Sleep. Here's Why. Research has found that 73 percent of high school students regularly do not get a healthy amount of sleep

hormonal time shift – puberty hormones shift the teenager's body clock forward by about one or two hours, making them sleepier one to two hours later. Yet, while the teenager falls asleep later, early school starts don't allow them to sleep in.

Stress, anxiety, and worry are other common reasons for sleep problems. Teens are dealing with more stress lately, interrupting their rest and recovery at night. Late-night phone and social media use, and sports or other physical activities close to bedtime can also make it more difficult to fall asleep.

Teens may misunderstand what you are trying to interpret by ‘relieving stress to fall asleep faster.’ Usually most teens would release stress by making them busy on the phone. However they may forget about the time and causes them to fall asleep later and wake up really tired. This causes sleep deprivation.
