This clip by Obama is one of the examples of how one can define class. He highlights the old boy network. This is basically what Gidden 2001 meant when he explained that Class is grouping people who share common economic resources and this influences the life style they lead. Therefore this clip shows that Obama and McCain share similar economic resources however in the clip, he highlights that even if, him and McCain associate with the same people, McCain’s network and connection is not as strong as his hence why he should be president.

This is a perfect example of social mobility, it shows how Jade Goody was able to move from having no money to
becoming a millionaire.

This is a good example to explain what most commenter’s mean by the British society is open and meritocratic. Jade showed that her success was based on her individual ability and achievement.

This clip shows how the endurance of Inequality still exists in Britain.. The government promises to help those in low socio economic position but once in power the richer become richer and the gap between them and the poor becomes bigger. They break their promises. Although functionalist like Davis and Moore would argue that inequality is a good thing in away because i legitimate bi- product of capitalism.
