For me, whenever I was in a class room, I always felt more involved whenever the teachers had something hands on planned. It helped me focus and because I’m a visual learner I was excited about be able to physically see and touch whatever we were learning about. What goes along with that is also knowing your students and their learning style. No child is going to learn the same as the next one, and to be able to engage our students we need to realize that. Minimizing distractions is also a big key. Children get so distracted, and if you have a loud and distracting work environment, they’re never going to focus enough to understand.

Motivating students is a really hard thing to do! I work with children that have Autism and we use A LOT of reinforcement and motivation. If the reinforcement isn't enticing to the child, it won't mean anything!
I think that having motivation pertaining to the kids interest is a very significant way to making learning fun or even easy. This can include games, group activities, shows/videos, etc. When I was a kid in school, I loved when my teachers made fun, hands on activities instead of standing there and lecturing. I think getting to know your student's likes/dislikes can create a more motivating experience in the classroom.

I believe that the way to get students motivated is to get to know them on a more personal level. What are their interests? Hobbies? What makes them happy? Sad? For example, as many of you know I have an absolute love for dogs. This loved started when I was a little girl.
In contrast to my love for dogs, I cannot stand learning about biology. It is easier for me to learn a foreign language than to learn biology.
Although I have a strong dislike for biology I believe that had my instructors taught me biology in terms of dogs, I would have not only learned something but I would have embraced it and been excited to learn.
Teachers, even great ones, who love their subject matter will not get through to their students if they can't find a way to make the subject interesting and fun.
