Vulnerability seems natural to me now. A leader cannot be expert at everything. Many a times, he/she will bot be good or may not have knowledge about a particular thing. It is okay. Previously I had a concept that vulnerability is a sign of weakness but it can be a strength as well. Expressing what you do not know to your team mates can in fact may strengthen your relationship with them as they may feel that they may feel more connected with you by being able to help you.

Vulnerability seems to be a something we all want to set aside and keep hidden with other feelings such as guilt, fear of failure, shame etc. If we can overcome our fears of being judged, criticized and even evaluated based on our vulnerability, we can finally set ourselves free and go out there being who we truly are. People who are not afraid to share their mistakes and confront failures with compassion, encourage others to do so too.

Sumona

Vulnerability can be empowering for leaders as people feel more comfortable around someone who is authentic and vulnerable. Team members will respect the leader more and trust him/her more for being transparent. Once they open up about who they really are, they will be able to make genuine connections with their co-workers. A vulnerable leader is comfortable with not having all the answers or solutions and accepts the fact that he/she does not have to be the first to come up with an idea or share a best practice. A leader who is willing to ask for assistance from his/her team, not only fosters a culture of sharing, but directly benefits from innovative solutions from others. When leaders shift their concentration, they will actually start performing better and good things start to happen!
Sumona

Being vulnerable isn’t a bad thing and it doesn’t make you weak; it actually makes you a better leader because you stop wasting energy protecting yourself from what you think other people shouldn’t see. It allows you to start showing your authentic self. We all make mistakes, especially as leaders. The more willing we are to admit and own our mistakes (not make excuses, point fingers, or avoid responsibility) the more others will trust us and want to follow our lead. Taking responsibility, apologizing, and making amends for the mistakes we make are not always easy things to do, but they’re essential for us to have true credibility with the people around us.

Being exposed to vulnerability is customary. A leader can face hundreds of such situations everyday. Instead of ignoring or refraining him/herself from it's tickling existence, a leader should have the courage to accept and confront it. Thus the door of enlightenment will be opened for him /her and eventually it will help to bridge a stronger bond of trust, respect and reliability with the team members.
Instead of taking 'Vulnerability' as a negative force, a leader should learn to accept it as a tool to empower him/herself and make it infectious for the team members to grow and to be happy.

Vulnerability is neither a weakness nor giving up or surrendering. On one hand people see it as the core of shame or fear and struggle for worthiness but on another hand it is the birth place of joy, creativity, belonging and love. You are imperfect and hard wired for struggle but you are also worthy of love and belonging. When we invent ourselves, we stop arguing and fighting and starts listening which makes us kinder and gentler towards the people around us and that time we really finds the true meaning of the word "Vulnerability"...

As a concept it takes off the pressure to be perfect all the time and in all scenarios. When I believe that I accept my students and my team as they are, I first need to accept myself as I am , feel I am worthy to believe everyone else is also worthy. It gives me the courage to accept that it is ok for me to be imperfect as long as I realize it. It is going to help me be my natural self and play with the strength of my Team bringing in a sense of interdependence.
Self acceptance leads to self compassion and in turn will help me to be compassionate with others.

There is a certain degree of shame/prejudice attached to the word vulnerability. If we have a broken piece of furniture, the first thing that would intuitively come to us is look for help. Somehow, the same doesn't seem to apply to feelings and human actions. Instead, we tend to pretend as if everything is fine. Unless we leave the prejudice aside and act on it , one day we might collapse on the furniture that we got fixed, because only the furniture got fixed and in the name of vulnerability something that we intend to cover up as projected weakness remains covered as well as exposed. We are imperfect, and it is those imperfections that make us perfect i.e. human. Peers and followers need to be led to the truth of accepting vulnerability as a part of character build up.
