         <description><![CDATA[<div>My name is Elena Tupyseva, and I would like to share my beautiful journey throughout the nine-week course on Organizational Design, Communication and Knowledge Management with the instructor Patrick O’Neill.</div><div><br></div><div>All components of this course, including our Thursday meetings, readings, assignments 1 and 2, have served as a springboard for creating this presentation. Also, this course was a great gift to me and valuable help to meet my most significant upcoming challenges and opportunities.          <description><![CDATA[<div>I was born in Moscow (Russia), and currently, I happily live and work here.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Recently, I have received a Canadian PR status, and incoming year I'm planning to move with my 14-year-old daughter to Canada. This change in personal and professional life looks scary and huge.&nbsp;<br><br>The most challenging for me is:</div><ul><li>How to say goodbye to the past?</li><li>How to welcome the transition?</li><li>How to say hello to the new beginning?&nbsp;</li></ul><div><br>When I look back on my journey through this course, I can confidently state that I'm a different person now than before this course. Now I have a clear vision of how to approach my challenge. This course's learnings and takeaways serve as a road map for the successful change and transition in my personal and professional life.&nbsp;<br><br>Now I can meet my challenge with courage and creativity and think of it as a great opportunity and fun!</div>]]></description>

         <title>POLITICAL FRAME</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>“The political view sees organizations as competitive arenas of scarce resources, competing interests, and struggles for power and advantage” (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p.23).<br><br></div><div>For me, being political means creating partnerships, alliances, and collaborations inside the organization’s team and outside of it. Organizations, families or groups of friends are always a coalition of individuals. Negotiations need to take place as a tool to fulfill personal and collective interests. To a lesser extent, I consider the political frame dominant in power. I believe in “soft power” and the power of debates. When I was a child, I was an athlete; I was trained as a figure skater. Since then, I have considered healthy competition a catalyzer of progress and innovation.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>The Political Frame is my dominant frame, and people see me as a person of strong will, determined, autonomous, and passionate. People often say that they can rely on me because I make things done. But what I have learned is that I have to be cautious and can loosen my passion and determination, empower others, and avoid burnout. Integration of the other three frames and mindfulness awareness will help me stay in balance.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>HUMAN RESOURCES FRAME</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"The human resource lens emphasizes understanding people - their strengths and foibles, reason and emotion, desires and fears" (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p.23).<br><br>From my point of view, the Human Resources Frame is connected to my dominant Political Frame. As I consider collaboration and alliances are the keys to success and development, an important asset of our professional and personal lives are the people and trust we build between each other. I was raised in a country where trust between ordinary people was the glue in society and the source against the political oppression of the communist party. The power of collective intelligence was always a great resource.&nbsp;<br><br>The practices of "presencing" and "deep listening" as a part of Otto Scharmer's Theory U are the core practices of the Human Relations Frame. Otto Scharmer argues that listening must be a core skill of each leader. It helps the leaders and teams act within the larger groups' interests.&nbsp;<br><br>The Human Resources Frame empowers us to recognize and support the development needs of each individual, member of the team. People are strongly motivated when they realize that leaders or other people notice them, empathize and understand them. As a result, Human Relations Frame creates a productive and coherent environment where people want to be part. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>SYMBOLIC FRAME</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"The symbolic frame focuses on issues of meaning and faith. It puts ritual, ceremony, story, play, and culture at the heart of organizational life" (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p.23).&nbsp;<br><br>I have been working in the cultural (performing arts) field for more than 20 years. Each organization's culture is an essential feature of its identity in this industry. Myths and rituals play an important role; leaders are often celebrities who are heroes and heroines. The cultural sphere is often an underpaid industry, and financial income is not a priority for people who work in this industry. Intangible aspects of the work play a significant role, such as values, symbols, beliefs, and affiliation with the great purpose.<br><br>I witnessed many people who had quit working in the commercial sector and moved to the cultural industry because their values and beliefs were coherent with the particular cultural organization. Also, "metaphors, humour, and play offer escape from the tyranny of facts and logic; they stimulate creative alternatives to timeworn choices" (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p. 263).&nbsp;<br><br>I was not an exception. One day I left my law carrier to be every day with people with whom I could share my values and be part of a particular tribe. I didn't want to divide personal life and work. I tried to find meaning in my life. So this frame is a crucial part of me. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>STRUCTUAL FRAME</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>“The structural approach focuses on the architecture of organization—the design of units and subunits, rules and roles, goals and policies” (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p.23).&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>The Bolman and Deal assessment showed that the Structural frame is below the normative average. Nevertheless, I understand this frame as I’m a very disciplined and organized person. I studied law and worked in a law company but decided to escape this domain. There was a lack of possibilities to experience a variety of approaches at work.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>The Structural Frame serves us as a tool in strategic planning, initiates rational and analytical thinking, and “goes much deeper to develop versatile and powerful ways to understand social architecture and its consequences” (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p. 43).&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>We look through the window of the Structural Frame when we need to set up procedures, structures, and rules of the game. As soon as this work is done, I am often bored with controlling the rules and procedures in the position of a leader. Therefore, I try to minimize the rules and balance the Structural Frame with the other three frames. &nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>PRESENCE &amp; MINDFUL AWARENESS PRACTICE </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I was surprised to discover that all the authors of the concepts I came across during our course speak about mindful awareness practices. They see it as an integral part of their concepts. Mindful awareness practices are essential for creating the space for new learnings and transformative experiences. &nbsp;<br><br>Previously, I practiced yoga, and I was happy to rediscover it again. So now I try to find 3-4 mornings per week to start the day with the short practice.&nbsp;<br><br>Also, I have started to implement the States-Check Exercise proposed by Wanda Krause on her website (http://www.wandakrause.com).<br><br>What I have noticed is that owing to the efforts made towards a mindful practice.&nbsp;</div><ul><li>I have almost overcome the habit of responding to different situations or questions reactively, and I manage to be responsive;</li><li>I have stopped listening by downloading and judging the receiving information with the knowledge of the past experience.</li></ul><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>ENDING - NEUTRAL ZONE - NEW BEGINNING</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"A frame is a mental model—a set of ideas and assumptions—that you carry in your head to help you understand and negotiate a particular "territory" (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p. 12).<br><br>"When the world seems hopelessly confusing, and nothing is working, reframing is a powerful tool for gaining clarity, regaining balance, generating new questions, and finding options that make a difference" (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p. 23).<br><br>"Chaos is not a mess, but rather it is the primal state of pure energy to which the person returns for every true new beginning…." (Bridges, 2009, p.2)<br><br>These three quotes inspire and will lead me through the transition as a movement in 3 steps: ending - neutral zone - beginning. I will use the Structural Frame to set the transition's framework, plan, and timeline. The Human Resources and Symbolic frames will help me to deal with the past and be grateful for encounters I had and symbols I hold. I count on mindful awareness practices to enjoy the neutral zone and unlearn previous habits and identities. The integration of all four frames will help to embrace the new beginning.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>COMMITMENT #1: time to say goodbye </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As I wrote in my Assignment #1 that the most challenging for me is to “how to say goodbye and let it go”. The work of William Bridges on managing transitions gave me a substantial ground to answer this question and start the process of letting go. People don’t like endings, but “beginnings depend on&nbsp; endings” (Bridges, 2009, p. 2).&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>There are two important questions to which I’m going to answer in coming weeks:</div><ol><li>What is actually ending?&nbsp;</li><li>Who is loosing what?&nbsp;</li></ol><div><br>I will feel relief and lightness after answering these two questions. The foreshadows of the answers sit deeply inside of me.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Mindful Awareness Practices&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>I deeply believe that Commitment #1 will be smoothly realized if I continue and enhance daily mindful awareness practices.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>My ideal menu of mindful awareness practices will include:<br><br></div><ol><li>30-min morning yoga practice with a meditation component;</li><li>the States-Check Exercise 3 times a day;</li><li>and coming back to running &amp; swimming.&nbsp;</li></ol><div><br>What I have realized during the course is that I miss the sports routine in my life. Adding sport as a part of my mindful awareness practices will bring me to a wholeness and resilient mode.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>WILLIAM BRIDGES: change vs transition</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>“It isn't the changes that do you in, it's the transitions. They aren't the same thing.” (Bridges, 2009, p.2)&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>This is the core of starting my journey. First of all, I have learnt that there is a fundamental difference between Change and Transition. Change is situational, and Transition is psychological. Transition is a process in 3 steps that people need to go through in order to cope with the new situation brought by the change.<br><br></div><div>“Because transition is a process by which people unplug from an old world and plug into a new world, we can say that transition starts with an ending and finishes with a beginning.” (Bridges, 2009, p.2)<br><br>Three steps include&nbsp;<br><br></div><ol><li>The first phase of transition is an ending. Where I need to letting go of my old ways and my old identity. Also, Here I need to identify my losses and deal with them.</li><li>The second phase is the Neutral zone. The time in-between when the old is gone but the new isn’t fully come. It is time when psychological renewal happens. It is time to unlearn old believes and create a space for new believes and identities.&nbsp;</li><li>The third phase - the new beginning. This when people experience the new energy, new identity and discover new sense of purpose. This is when the transition process ends. &nbsp;</li></ol><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Now I would like to reflect on what I have learned about each dimension of the Human Enterprise Framework.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The four-frames model “shows that each of the frames has its own image of reality.” (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p. 19).&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>“Frames serve multiple functions. They are sources of new questions, filters for sorting essence from trivia, maps that aid navigation, and tools for solving problems and getting things done.” (Bolman &amp; Deal, 2017, p. 23).<br><br></div><div>The environment is a complex entity; our lives are complex too. Therefore, I think it is essential to have the ability to integrate all frames in our practices and make an effort to look at the situations, challenges and transitions through different lenses.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>The completed Bolman and Deal assessment has revealed quite a balanced profile with the dominance of the Political frame. It has occurred that intuitively I used these lenses before, but now owing to the course and theories, I have theoretical evidence, and these frames have been articulated.<br><br></div><div>Also, the important learning outcome that all four frames are integral part of my personal and professional life. The frames co-exist, influence each other. My task is to incorporate mindfulness practices in my daily routine in order to lead my life with more agility and impact.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
