She left behind two children after being separated from their father. Enrique then gets taken in by his father which soon later abandons him for a women. So he finds solitude with his grandmother. Lourdes (his mother) finds a job and sends money home but ends up quitting because she couldn't stand taking care of another's child while abandoning her own. The money wasn't enough anyway and it couldn't fulfill what the children lacked, her.
