Dwight D. Eisenhower was the reigning president of America from 1952-1956 and 1956-1960. Eisenhower was a supreme commander of troops during the invasion of France on D-Day. After the war he became the supreme command of the NATO forces that were being assembled. During his first term, Dwight had a heart attack. After a few weeks the doctors told him he was healthy enough for his second term which he got. One of his famous quotes is "The peace we seek and need means much more than mere absence of war. It means the acceptance of law, and the fostering of justice, in all the world.". He states "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country,". His family believed that the White House should be a place of celebrating American history, achievements, and culture. President Kennedy was dedicated to the United States leading in exploring space. The Soviet Union was ahead of them in space exploration, and he was determined to catch up. President Kennedy said "No nation which expects to be the leader of other nations can expect to stay behind in this race for space." On November 21, 1963, President Kennedy flew out to Texas to give multiple political speeches. The next day, November 22, as his car was driving through slowly past cheering crowds in Dallas, shots came out. He was badly wounded and passed soon after. Kennedy's death caused much grief upon America. As time has gone by, President Kennedy's time in office stands out for his leadership, personality, and accomplishments.

	Richard M. Nixon

Richard Nixon was the 37th president which lasted from 1964 to 1974. He established his goal was “to bring the American people together.” . He was born in Yorba Linda, California, on January 9, 1913. Richard Nixon studied at Whittier College and Duke University Law School before beginning the practice of law. In 1950, he won a Senate seat. Two years later, General Eisenhower selected Nixon, age 39, as his vice-presidential running mate. Nominated for president by acclamation in 1960, he lost by such a thin slither to John F. Kennedy that he privately wondered whether the election had been stolen. In 1972, dismissing his opponent as too far left, Nixon defeated South Dakota Senator George McGovern by one of the greatest margins on record. But within a few months, his administration was battled over what was soon called the Watergate scandal, created from a break in at the offices of the Democratic National Committee during the 1972 campaign. The break in was traced to Nixon campaign officials. Nixon denied any personal involvement, but the courts forced him to show tape recordings he had made of his private Oval Office conversations, which indicated that he had, in fact, tried to divert the investigation and thus obstruct justice.

A pardon by Nixon’s successor spared him the ordeal of a criminal trial and possible prison sentence. Nixon spent the two decades before his death in 1994 trying to restore his reputation through books and speeches.

At Nixon’s behest, his gravestone in Yorba Linda bears a quotation from his first Inaugural Address that he hoped would be accepted as his epitaph: “The greatest honor history can bestow is the title of peacemaker.”
