Bumblebees live in nests made in pre-existing cavities on the landscape like rock piles, empty mouse burrows, and under layers of dense vegetation. The queen lays eggs in the hive made of waxen pots after filling them with nectar and pollen. Female worker bees are produced first, then males, and then new queens. The larvae of the normal bees will develop in the hive until ready to work. The new queens will hatch usually after the colony starts to die out in the fall and once they are ready to leave they will find a place too hibernate and mate for next season.
