The United States was involved with the Korean War when they provided military attention and aid to South Korea, helping them defend against North Korea to prevent communism from spreading.

The United States chose to get involved out of fear from the Soviet Union and communists in China, which they thought encouraged the spread of communism from North Korea to South Korea. So, in order to stop it, they sided with South Korea to prevent North Korea communism.
