The femur, tibia and fibula are articulating at the knee, which is a hinge joint. These three bones are all long bones. Above the femur is the ilium and ischium these are used for ligament and muscle attachment for the ball and socket joint. These two bones are found in the pelvic area and are classified as long bones.

As well as this, to support the hinge joint we have the patella, which a sesamoid bone, to stop the knee from hyperextending. In the lower trunk lateral rotation is produced via the vertebral column. The vertebrae in the spine are all irregular bones.

At the ball and socket joint at the superior part of the femur is hip flexion. Near the distal part of the femur is where the bone articulates with the tibia and Fibula via the hinge joint. The movement occurring at the joint is knee flexion.
