Throughout the book, Alice's mother prepares her for bedtime by bringing her things like lilac flowers, tea, a silk blanket, and lullaby bells. As Alice attempts to express her distaste for all of the non-blue items her mother brings into her room, she gets the surprise she's been waiting for. As Alice and her mother gaze out her bedroom window at the bright white moon, her mother clicks off the bedside lamp. Before Alice's eyes, the moon casted a pale blue haze on everything. Needless to say, Alice was finally able to sleep in her blue room. I liked this book because of the simplicity of it. The entire story took place in one setting; making it easier for the audience to follow. Another point I found interesting was the plot twist in the story. The readers clearly see from the opening of the book that almost nothing (with the exception of a blanket), was even blue in Alice's room. Therefore, thoughts of confusion took over as I tried to understand why everything needed to be blue in order for Alice to sleep. Whether this be their parents, or their teacher. Throughout the book, Alice keeps wanting to reject the things her mother is bringing into the room, because none of it was blue. Her mother simply reassured her that everything was going to be okay.
