Resource #3 - World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion

554 Why Thai motorcycle rider death at the top rank of the world?

Findings: From 2017-2019, Thailand's economic losses due to motorcycle-related injuries, deaths, and disabilities were 3x higher than revenue from exporting motorcycles and parts during the same period of time. A lot of factors contributed to this including: deficiencies in road design/maintenance, inadequate motorcycle safety standards, and gaps in rider education.

Campaign: Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt presided over opening of new campaign to encourage motorcyclists to follow safety laws & wear helmets on the road. The city gathered around City Hall to raise awareness to the importance of wearing helmets. The city has since given helmets to over 120,000 students in the Bangkok area since last year (2023).

553 The role of artificial intelligence in pediatric injuries- a scoping review

- Findings: Doctors have to make fast decisions to help patients, and this article discusses how Artificial Intelligence can help doctors when treating children with injuries (pediatric trauma). Researchers searched a medical database for studies about AI in child injury cases. They found that AI is being used in several important ways: predicting head injuries, detecting broken bones, and predicting outcomes. Common types of AI used were: machine learning (AI that learns form data), image recognition (AI looking at x-rays or CT scans), and decision support systems (tools that help doctors choose treatments).

Campaign: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has taken steps to encourage the use of AI in clinical settings by approving reimbursement for specific AI-driven diagnostic tools. This policy change incentivizes healthcare providers to adopt AI technologies that can enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
