I knew that a monopoly had to do with businesses but I didn't know what they meant. When I heard the word monopoly I would normally think of the game. But when I first learned what the word meant, I was confused because the word and definition didn't match. Before I learned what a monopoly was, I though it was a good thing. The businesses had been polluting their local areas, they were not competing fairly between each other. Big business men didn't respect their workers and the government didn't do a thing about it. One of the main reasons they didn't do anything about was because the big business men had the power and government officials didn't.
