Love can often lead people into the trail of mortality. Sometimes, people do not realize a problem until somebody else gets hurt because of it. In literature, characters who disagree with the major characters opinions are often used to point out the overall theme. These foil characters show people who the main character truly is. In the book, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare shows his readers the affect that love can have on people and the power of it. Shakespeare does this by highlighting the differences in actions and opinions of Romeo and Benvolio.

Imagine meeting someone, becoming friends, and spending everyday together and one day, it is all gone. Sometimes it is because of one's own decisions or sometimes there is nothing one can do. Throughout literature, the minor characters, reveal information about the major character. The major characters help drive the story forward and they also impact the story by their actions. In the novel, The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks proves to the reader that sometimes love is meant to be by highlighting how the relationship of Noah Calhoun and Allison Nelson (Allie) are different in the way they are and their actions.

The relationship between a character has with another is crucial, foil character are apart of this idea. Foil characters are often characters that are complete opposites, that bring out each others traits. Like in the novel "The Land of Stories", written by Chris Colfer.

Ralph Emerson once said, "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." It is through the suppression from others that allows one to discover their true strength. In literature, we see opposing forces such as characters who differentiate in personality, actions, or morals. These opposing forces can also be known as foil characters. Foil characters can help further develop the main character, and shed light on the true meaning of the story. In the three piece novel set, 'The Selection' series by Kiera Cass, the reader is taught to not conform to the molds society has made by creating a difference in the personalities and actions of America Singer and Kriss Ambers.

Foil characters usually bring out the best or the worst in main characters. Throughout the literature, authors use these characters to benefit the others. Morrie is elderly and dying and Mitch is young and vibrant. Their differences show how we learn different lessons at different points in our life. The flashbacks in this book allow the reader to notice the strong relationship Mitch has with his old professor. The condition that Morrie has (ALS) serves as a symbol that creates a message. People should pay more attention to important people in their life that they normally do not notice. In Tuesdays With Morrie, Mitch Albom highlights the importance of creating long-lasting relationships and taking those whose actions are "invisible', more into consideration by utilizing flashbacks and symbols.

Augustus once said, "everyone wants to lead an extraordinary life". However it is often viewed that living a successful life is based on the moments shared between people, rather than a characters achievements. In multiple novels, as contrasting characters meet, they are able to accommodate a true self- identity through realization of differences. These foil characters can illuminate emotions of the protagonist and reveal personal morals. In the book, The Fault in our Stars, John Green shows the reader the importance of living life to its greatest potential by showcasing the differences in thoughts and "inevitable" outcomes between Hazel Lancaster and Augustus Waters.

disablities bring out different sides of people. Often times in literature disabled people get treated differently. Sometimes the disabled get bullied. More times than not, people get uncomfertable when around people that are different. In the book Wonder, Augest gets bullied by Jullian when he started public school. Jullian did not know how to act so he was mean. He made Auggie feel bad, but the reader sees that with a good support system you can overcome anything.

Anyone can make a choice, and anyone can be manipulated. People often use others to achieve goals or wants. One may even feel the need to feed off of others. In literature, a reader can clearly see how some characters are manipulator while others are the manipulated. These very different characters typically highlight key features in one another and expose themes within the work. Books use foil characters to help show the build up of excitement between two characters. This helps create suspense and drama about the characters true meaning. Enders game, written by Orson Scott Card uses Ender Wiggin and Peter Wiggin as foil characters to show how manipulation, hate, and tough love can only serve as motivation to others.

In literature, some characters strive to show compassion while others live to see someone crumble. The stark difference between the two types of people often reveals key themes within the tale. This can appear especially true in one of literature's most common character types: the foil characters. These characters often consist of minor character whose contrasting personality or ideologies tend to bring out the strengths or weaknesses of the main character. Often, the relationship between these two characters can refine the meaning of a story, and even aid the main character in discovering their true self. In Marissa Meyer's, Cinder, the reader is shown how one can find self worth in their own unlikeness by highlighting the differences in the beliefs and actions of Linh Cinder and Linh Adri.

When foil characters are compared it shows one or more characters best traits and personality differences. Having foil characters can really show one character’s true nature. In the book, J.K.
