They were classified as a distinct class, above the merchants but below the samurai and farmers. They were above the merchants because they would produce works that would be sold by people who would just earn for themselves. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Merchants were basically on the bottom of the hierarchy. In Medieval Japan they were not well regarded as they joined no value to the country. They were more about taking care of themselves with doing different trades and moved differed good towards different areas of the hierarchy. &nbsp;Merchants were on the bottom of the hierarchy as they only did profit towards themselves though there are very wealthy. Japanese society cared about talking care of the nation while Merchants only brought good to themselves.</div>]]></description>
