The lady who picked up the baby in the church where it was abandoned in Le Fresne took the baby home and raised her as a niece. In The Memory Keepers Daughter the nurse who helped deliver the twins takes the baby and raises her as her own daughter instead of leaving her at an orphanage. Even though they were brought up differently they were still raised by those outside their blood line.

So he went to the extent of telling his wife that the baby had died during birth. This is a picture of him and his wife attending their daughters funeral.

In both of these stories you see the theme of forgiveness. An example from Le Fresne you see is when the birth mother tells her the reasons for why she abandoned her the daughter does not over react but instead forgives her mother for what she has done. An example from The Memory Keepers Daughter you see forgiveness when the birth mom and twin brother find out the daughter is in fact still alive. Even though they first are very angry with the father that he has hidden this for years they learn to find forgiveness within.

In both of these stories you find an actual happy ending for everyone. In Le Fresne you see the family rejoice in the fact that they have found their daughter. They try to do right by her and are very pleased to have found their daughter doing well and how great she has turned out to be. Then you have The Memory Keepers Daughter even though the birth father has passed away before they gather as a family you do see the happiness at the end. When the birth mother shows up with her twin brother you see that the mother that has raised her all this time was very welcoming and accepting and did allow the meeting. You see the daughter give both of her mothers a flower wishing them a Happy Mother's Day.

In my opinion I imagine the ending where the actually reunite and its a happy time. In The Memory Keepers Daughter you get to see the smiles on their faces and the warmth and love between them. As for Le Fresne you don't get to see the love but you can imagine their daughter getting married and seeing the happiness the birth parents are for finding their daughter through the lines given at the end of how they rejoiced.
