Sears started his career at age 17, working for the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway to support his family. 

He moved to Redwood Falls, Minnesota and worked as a station agent.

Then, in 1886 he was allowed to sell watches and jewelry that was refused by a jewel dealer using mail order (railway). 

Later in 1886, Sears then created his own mail order watch business.

In a year, Sears had hired Alvah C. Roebuck, a watch repairman and moved his new business to Chicago.

Two years later, with the success of his business, he sold it for 100,000 dollars. He then moved to Iowa, intending to become a rural banker. 

But with him becoming restless and the railways becoming bigger, he came back to Minnesota.

Sears than had a astounding idea, he could sell anything using mail order and the railways. Sears and Roebuck created their new business, Sears, Roebuck and Company.

By 1894 Sears had over 504 catalog pages. Examples of these products are desks, tables, chairs, carpet, books, houses, etc. 

Sears, Roebuck and Company helped people in the Great Plains because everyone could now get resources to help their lives.

Sears sold pocket watches to fix the standard time issue

Had a brilliant idea to create a mail order business that sold essentially anything available at that time.

Sears Roebuck and Company changed the way people shopped. This allowed people in the living in the Great Plains to  get materials that they used to not be able to get.

Sears Roebuck and Company created a national market which was mail order. At one point, Sears Roebuck and Company sold houses and shipped them using mail order.

When Sears created Sears Roebuck and Company, they created a economic boom in the United States of America.

The company gave jobs to people in the U.S like freedmen and others.
