The horror movies in the 70s had some iconic theme songs. Most of the most iconic themes use different elements to make the same effect of suspense . Halloween which is one of the most known themes uses a fast piano to create suspense and intense situations. Jaws' orchestra of violins which starts of slow and builds up and intensifies to create the same effect. Even today, id those themes songs are heard anywhere they will quickly be recognized. Horror movies in the 70s have left their mark using their music.

Slasher films are defined as "a horror movie, especially one in which victims (typically women or teenagers) are slashed with knives and razors." The 70s was the "birth" of slasher films. This decade produced iconic slasher films such as "Halloween" and "Texas chainsaw Massacre". This type of horror films became one of the most popular. It became even more popular in the 80s with movies like "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm Street". The 70s, however, will be the start and the pinnacle of slasher.

Most horror movies from the 1970s mainly take place at night, which means low lighting. The low light creates a suspenseful feeling to surprise the viewer. The light creates tension and often shocks the viewer when the antagonist approaches. Most of the horror films from the 70's thrived on the low-key lighting. The lighting itself can set the movie's mood without any additional effects. This is probably why people still watch horror movies from the 1970's to this day.
