Define interaction design and describe how it is different from information architecture, product design and visual design.

Ans: Interaction design is a complex and wide ranging field that covers nearly all aspects of human cognition, emotion, and behavior. It the structure and behavior of interactive systems. Interaction designers strive to create meaningful relationships between people and the products and services that they use, from computers, to mobile devices, to appliances, and beyond.

How it is different: More than just drawing the interface, and showing how to gather and display information. It's about designing for the entire interconnected system: the device, the interface, the context, the environment, and the people.

Processes that interaction designers engage with: definition, research, ideation, design, prototyping, observation, and iteration as needed.

Definition - Define project, product, task at hand, understand what we want to achieve.
Research - Gather data, define product/problem, generate ideas & potential solutions. Use data to form foundation of product and research gives a direction to head to, but more research is always for the better good.
Ideation - Think, collaborate, sketch, ponder, wonder, dream, and draw. We generate many possibilities, select a few, and pursue only the best.
Design and Prototyping - Think, collaborate, sketch, ponder, wonder, dream, and draw. We generate many possibilities, select a few, and pursue only the best.
Iteration - Monitoring the performance, usability, accessibility, and the success of a product after it's been released. We gather data, speak with and observe users, gather usage and error data, and look for opportunities to modify, improve, and enhance that product.

An increased access to information has changed consumer expectations.

E.g An analogy of a car dealer providing consumers information regarding the car to convince them to purchase the car. Fast forward to now, we can look at the car information ourselves and determine our own purchasing power.

Consumers now have to be fulfilled instead of being empowered to expect. Making orders on demand. (Information Highway vs My Way Highway)

App: Snapchat
Snapchat allow users to express themselves, live in the moment and socialize with different users across the world.
Category: Photography/Social Networking
Features: Snapchat allow users to talk with their friends online easily and conveniently, save chats by holding on to a sentence, or by leaving it so that it does not get saved. Users are also able to view live stories from around the world, comment on stories and its new feature allow users to find their friend's location if enabled. Snapchat also allow users to set a timer on the photos/videos sent, furthermore it allows an infinite timer and many filters as well.
Functions that i use: Personally, most of the time i would use its filters as there are many creative & interesting filters such as the beautifying filter or horror filters available and it is all free!
What i like: I would prefer snapchat over its competitors because of the different filters in the app, and also the saving chat function/timer function. Nonetheless, snapchat also has its disadvantages such as the amount of mobile data it uses and also the lag it has at some point of time.
