Name: Valentina Cardona Ossa y Jacobo Urrego Sepúlveda Date:21/4/22.

Freedom Writers Video Questions

1. Why did Erin Gruwell (Mrs. G) decide to teach instead of becoming a lawyer?
Because she wanted to protect people and their homes and thought that a better way to do that, was becoming a teacher.

2. List some opposition/obstacles Ms. G faces in the beginning:
At first it was very difficult to catch the students attention, and all of them were very indifferent about she being there, there were also a lot of fifths and she wasn't taken seriously.

3. How do the students in 203 relate to one another at first?
They first organize them by their races, latins with latina, Asians with Asians all in separeta groups, between gangs it was very clear the relavity, like trying to protect themselves by dragging others down.

4. What are ways Ms. G tried to engage (make them interested) the students?
After a racist drawing an student did, she started having an agreement with the student taking the example of the Holocaust, making them know she's more than they thought.

5. What are some reasons the students do not respect Ms. G at first? What do they say to her when, she confronts them?
-According to them because she didn't know anything about them, neither their life or what they've been through
-Because she was white, and she hasn't been through all of the harassment and stuff they've received in all of their life time.

6. What is Ms. G’s husband’s attitude toward her teaching career?
At first he was very supporting but then get a little worried because she was taking a lot of their time on his students and his career an general and kinda make him feel outcast.

7. Why do you think Ms. G experienced so much opposition from the other teachers?
They all though she was being a little credulous and a noob, because she had hope, something that a long time ago the others teacher quit.

8. How does Ms. G attempt again to reach the students?
By the games she did, giving them brand new books, taking them to trips, and at last but not least by the diary.

9. How do the students see themselves in the scheme of society?
Like gánster, they think they will be respected by protecting their gang and they'll be remembered and respected when they'll die.
Saw them self as streets soldiers.
