         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Aircraft: </strong>X-15<br><br>The X-15 is fasinating as flown in the 1960s, it was a crucial vehicle to test and prepare NASA astronauts (Notably Neil Armstrong - First man on the moon) for space travel and also paved the way for the development of air and spacecrafts.<br><br>The X-15 managed to break multiple speed and alttitude records in it's time, having broken the karman line (100 km) and reaching space on 2 occasions&nbsp; and reaching speeds of Mach 6.7, highest speed ever on a manned powered aircraft, a record that is still standing.<br><br>Beyond it's simplistic looking design, the plane featured a lot of advancements that help push for the better understanding about dealing with excess heat, structural loads, control of aircraft at hypersonic speeds. While also pushing the advancements of new-age fuels and rocket engines.<br><br>However, what is most commendable is the test pilots on the project. In the age before any real computer simulations or analysis, a lot of the plane's shape, design, materials were only merely guesswork; without much evidence or knowledge to back it up. Despite that, the test pilots were extremely courageous and brave, continuing to push the boundaries of what the plane was capable of,&nbsp; all manually with little to any computer systems to keep the plane in control and stable, in order to further our knowledge.<br><br>In pursuit of that, souls were lost and often times the planes that broke the records were unable to be used again with the plane being deformed, scortched and missing many parts.&nbsp; In spite of the lossses, the contributions of the entire X-15 program help push and further our understanding of what is possible.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
