I feel they will be able to use this when they are already independent writers, where they get used to clicking on the tabs and finding the information they need to write their essay. It is a great tool, because all the tools and resources are there for them.

I learned a lot and will definitely try this out .  The one issue that we discussed which involves teachers not being able to view students' work while it is in progress without putting in each of their codes is one concern.  Having them copy their daily progress with headings (such as pre-write, etc) daily into Google Classroom is one additional easy step for them which would make it much easier for me to make sure they are working and on task.  Thanks for the great hands-on information.
