Prizes including: best actor and acress, best animation, best documentary and best graphic designer were dished out at the awards presented by second year media student Donald Matanga.

Assistant Academy Manager, Delta Muntean said: "The students collaborated with other departments, in particular music, where they had their music videos filmed. It gave them a real opportunity to be in the limelight and get some publicity.

The Oscars is an opportunity to showcase student's work and also a chance for them to see it on the big screen."

Reflect 2015 offered those studying media, art, photography, journalism, graphic design and film a chance to parade their work to friends, family and industry guests.

Highlights of the exhibition included a children's book written in collaboration with The Down's primary school and graphics student's designs to modify Stansted Airport.

He admitted that the campaign to become Prime Minister in next May’s general election is “a big fight”, but he quashed doubts over his leadership ability by promising “it’s a fight that I’m up for.”

Trainee journalists from the college were given the chance to meet Mr Miliband during an informal interview prior to his Q&A session. 

He faced questions on topics including tuition fees, unemployment in young people and how he deals with pressure.

Tom Powter, 21, is currently studying for his NCTJ Fast-Track Diploma at Harlow’s prestigious journalism centre, which counts Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson amongst its alumni. He said: “Meeting and interviewing Mr Miliband was a fantastic opportunity for me as a trainee reporter.”

“I felt the college set up the day excellently and it gave us an amazing insight into the dizzying world of political journalism.”

Mr Miliband pledged to reduce university tuition fees to £6,000 per year if he is elected as Prime Minister. Referring to the Liberal Democrats’ pledges in the run-up to the 2010 election concerning university funding, he declared that voters had been “scarred” by Nick Clegg’s actions as Deputy Prime Minister and promised that a Labour government would not renege on its promises to students.

He also reaffirmed that a Labour government would extend the vote to 16 and 17-year-olds and said that politicians “needed to give young people a voice.”
